June 13, 2008: CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa  — Rising water from the Cedar River forced the evacuation of a downtown hospital Friday after residents of more than 3,000 homes fled for higher ground. A railroad bridge collapsed, and 100 city blocks were under water. This is the worst flooding in over 100 years sources have been quoted as saying.  Flooding is also going on in Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and several Midwestern states.  AP News

Severe storms consisting of winds reportedly reaching 80 mph swept through the Plains June 27 and June 28, 2008 causing significant damage in areas of Nebraska and Iowa.  This storm also left thousands of residents in without electricity. AllState

* Food/water is going to be hard to get in some areas as there will be shortages of both.

June 17, 2008: Mississippi- The rising Mississippi River has broken high-water records up and down the Iowa and Illinois shore, cresting as high as 12 feet above flood stage in some places. Estimates place the cost of the damage at over $1 billion dollars, and concerns are rising over crop damage, toxic remnants that were washed into neighborhoods, future mosquito invasions, and maintaining supplies of clean drinking water. Communities further downstream are bracing for possible flooding as well.

*  Fire will be a real danger this summer as several blazes will burn out of control and rain will not be coming to assist them.

June 12, 2008: Fires blaze across California and according to experts this has been one of the worst fire seasons in history.  With the cooling of the Atlantic it makes fires more hazardous this season.  People are being warned if a fire breaks out to make sure they have plans in place to save as much of their possessions as possible.  Weather Channel

fastest pace in six months as energy and food costs marched higher.
The Labor Department reported Tuesday that its Producer Price
Index, which measures the costs of goods before they reach store
shelves, shot up 1.4 percent in May. That was up from a modest 0.2
percent rise in April and marked the biggest increase since
